    DINING
Numerous dining opportunities exist along South Maui's Sun Coast. Among restaurants favored by locals and visitors alike are the following:

Five Palms Beach Grill - A few minutes' drive from Aston Maui Hill in the Mana Kai Resort, this restaurant consistently earns acclaim for its food and romantic oceanside setting. Brunch is served daily on the shaded outside terrace. Linen-service dinner takes place inside under ceiling fans, in a plantation-type setting. Both feature local ingredients prepared with award-winning finesse.

Joe's Bar and Grill - Located in the Wailea Tennis Center a 10-minute drive south of Aston Maui Hill, Joe's is owned by former Kingston Trio member Joe Gannon and his chef-wife Beverly. Open for dinner only, Joe's specializes in local seafood, steak, and prime rib.

    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: The near-total absence of signs symbolizes Aston's intent to maintain a true residential atmosphere within the resort. Couples and families often feel like this is their second home—the one in Hawaii with the immaculate gardens and grounds, the breathtaking views, and the reliably warm-and-dry climate.

Amenity highlights: In keeping with the community ambience, management hosts weekly Continental breakfasts and evening mai tai parties and arranges a low-cost sunset cocktail cruise. Snorkeling and scuba-diving enthusiasts appreciate their proximity to the tiny island of Molokini, renowned for the clarity of its surrounding water, which can clearly be seen offshore against the looming backdrop of Kahoolawe island.

Insider tip: Although there are three public-park beaches just down the hill from the resort (Kamaole I, II, and III), a large, uncrowded beach called Keawakapu that begins in front of the Mana Kai Resort (a few minutes' drive from Aston Maui Hill) is superior. Next to the Mana Kai is a public parking lot. Signs point the way to the beach, which offers great snorkeling along its rocky northern terminus, terrific boogie-boarding when the tradewinds blow, and long tropical-fantasy walks. (Buildings along the beach seldom exceed palm-tree height, somewhat preserving the illusion that the beachfront is undeveloped.)

Comprised of 140 units in 12 two-story buildings, Aston Maui Hill is a low-rise condominium resort designed with Mediterranean style, including tan stucco walls and red-tile roofs. Kihei Town, a peaceful (20 mph speed limit) community arrayed along the ocean, provides shopping, dining, and nightlife opportunities. A mile from the resort is a shopping center with a 24-hour supermarket. In the resort's small lobby there's a high-speed Internet kiosk and an activities desk for booking tours, excursions, luaus, and car rentals.

There are 17 golf courses in South and West Maui, including four resort courses and one public course within five miles of Aston Maui Hill. The activities desk can make reservations at them all and can arrange discounts at several for Aston Maui Hill guests. Golf clubs can be rented.

Also through the activities desk, the following beach gear can be rented: boogie boards, body boards, surfboards, boards with masks for viewing underwater life, snorkel sets, chairs, umbrellas, and children's sand toys.
